In a peculiar little home nestled amidst a grove of trees, three robots reside: an elderly inventor android named Giovanni Lawson, a delightfully sadistic nurse machine, and a small vacuum cleaner desperate for love and attention. Rounding out this unusual household is Victor Lawson, a human who has become their family.

Life takes an unexpected turn when Vic salvages and repairs an unfamiliar android labeled "HAP." As it turns out, Hap and Gio share a dark past, a past spent hunting humans. Hap's presence inadvertently alerts robots from Gio's former life to their whereabouts, shattering their peaceful existence.

Gio is captured and taken back to his old laboratory in the City of Electric Dreams. It is now up to Vic and the rest of his assembled family to embark on a perilous journey across an unforgiving and otherworldly land to rescue Gio from decommission, or worse, reprogramming. Along the way, Vic must grapple with conflicting feelings of betrayal and affection for Hap, ultimately deciding whether he can accept love with strings attached.

In the Lives of Puppets is a charming and heartwarming tale of love, acceptance, and the power of family. Through the lives of an eclectic group of characters, both human and robotic, T.J. Klune explores themes of identity, belonging, and the challenges faced by those who defy societal expectations.
