Summary:

In a small village in Mexico, young Alejandra lives a hopeless existence. Driven by poverty and seeking affection, she sells her body at just thirteen years old. Meanwhile, she learns that she is different, that it is not safe for her here. She goes to America, but without papers, life there is also not easy for a migrant like her.
In 2015, Alejandra arrives at Schiphol, reports herself and gets a one-way ticket to Ter Apel. There, the search for a home begins anew. She seeks warmth, love and finds a new family. Despite great adversity - the sluggish procedures, rejections and depression - she perseveres in her ultimate quest for freedom. She longs to live, to love, to be free - to be who she truly is.
The Truth Will Set Me Free is the poignant story of Alejandra, a trans woman searching for a safe home. At times a sad story, but vitality and perseverance dominate from beginning to end.
